TRAVEL BOOK
Day 1: Rio De Janeiro - Sugarloaf Mountain
Airport pick up (time and flight number to be confirmed) and transfer to the hotel.
Your English-speaking guide will meet you at the hotel at 14:00pm.
You will go to the cable car which will take you to the summit of the Sugarloaf (400 m.a.s.l.), for a view of the city marking entrance of Guanabara Bay.
Return to the hotel at 18:00pm.

Day 2: Rio De Janeiro - Botanic Garden - Tijuca Forest - Corcovado
Your english speaking guide will meet you at the hotel at 09:00am for a city tour.
You will start the visit with the impressive botanical garden, proudness of the cariocas. Each of the 141 hectares of the park hosts species of the brazilian and world flora. The imperial palm trees, main attraction of the garden, were seeded under the order of the regent prince Dom Joao VI in 1809. centenary trees, orchids, vtorias regia, bromeliads, flamboyants in an atmosphere filled with tropical scents.
Free time to wander to your own pace between the water pools and to enjoy the freshness and peacefulness of the place.
Then transfer to the Tijuca national park in the centre of Rio. This oasis of vegetation of 3,200 hectares is the biggest urban forest in the world and is he best opportunity to hike both "around" and "in" Rio. You will pass through the "vista chinesa" and the "mesa do Imperador" which are great viewing points of the city.
In the afternoon, climb up the Corcovado (700 m el.) a worldly known symbol of Rio. At the summit take the time to appreciate the unique and wonderful panoramic view of the cidade maravilhosa in front of you.

Day 3: Rio De Janeiro - Morro Dos Dois Irmaos - Rio De Janeiro - Ipanema - Rio De Janeiro - Ipanema
Hiking - 2:30 - medium intensity
Your English-speaking guide will meet you at your hotel at 09:00.
Short transfer by regular bus along the beaches of Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon. From the beach of Ipanema, we already see the "2 Irmãos" standing at the end at the beach. The bus leaves you just at the foot of the "Morro", at the entrance of the Vidigal favela.
From there, a combi-taxi takes you to the heart of the community. You can also choose to go on foot. The road is narrow, steep, with tight turns, the traffic is rather intense. You finally arrive at the top of the favela, the starting point of the trail.
Change of scene: you go from the community agitation to the quiet Atlantic Forest. In a few seconds, you are in the middle of the rainforest. It is about a 1h30-hiking trip. During the climb, you will overlooking the impressive favela. Farther, the Pedra da Gávea dominates the neighborhoods and the beaches of São Conrado and Barra da Tijuca.
You finally get to the top. The view is breathtaking. Without any doubt, you have in front of you one of the most beautiful views of the southern area of Rio.
You take the time to enjoy the sights, then take the same path for the descent.
You walk back down the favela. Possibility to go down in the favela kombi or motorbike taxi (not included).
Back to your hotel by local bus at around 1:00 p.m.

After a short transfer to Ipanema, you will get your bikes for a half day discovery of the south area of Rio. The tour will firstly follow a biking track on the lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas´s banks (7.5 km circumference) just behind Ipanema (option to visit the Catacumba park, a nice park with modern sculptures).
Then you will follow the Leblon and Ipanema beaches, crowded in summer but quieter the rest of the year. You can take a break for a swim in the sea then enjoy the viewing point in arpoador, the rock marking the end of the beach.
A short distance to bike and you will be in Copacabana (option to visit the Copacabana fort, entrance fee not included).
Return the bikes late in the morning and return to the hotel.

Day 4: Rio De Janeiro - Foz do Iguaçu - Iguaçu Falls - Brazilian side
Transfer to the airport 3 hours prior to departure. Flight from Rio de Janeiro (time and number to be confirmed).
Pick up at the airport and transfer to the hotel (or to the site depending on the arrival time).
In a private vehicle, you will head to the Brazilian side of the Iguaçu Park and admire a wondeful panoramic view.
The Iguaçu national park, 185,000 acres, was created in 1939 and its ecological reserve was classified as a Natural Heritage site by the UNESCO. You will pass hundreds of small falls before reaching the last one, Floriano Fall. From this one you will have an arresting panoramic view over the "Devil’s Canyon", in front of you.
Return towards Foz de Iguaçu. On the way, you will stop at the bird park (parque das aves), where hundreds of different types of birds from Brazil are sheltered, but also from other tropical countries.

Day 5: Iguaçu Falls - Argentinian side
Meet your English-speaking guide at 08:45am at your hotel. Transfer to the Argentinean side of the park (about 40 minutes). Stop at the symbolic panoramic point on three borders: Paraguay - Brazil - Argentina. Visit of the falls from the Argentina side, from where you will get closer to the water, and of the impressive "Devil’s Canyon" under your feet. Then return to your hotel on the Brazilian side in the afternoon.

Day 6: Salvador
Your English-speaking guide and a driver will be waiting for you as you get off the plane to drive you to your hotel in downtown Salvador.
n.b. : 45 minutes’ drive
In the evening, your English-speaking guide will come to pick you up at the hotel to go to the Miguel Santana Theatre. You will watch the magnificent folkloric ballet of Bahia perform songs and dances about Afro Brazilian divinities worshiped in Salvador.
After the show, you will go to a restaurant taste Bahia traditional dishes.
You will go back to your hotel at the end of the night.

Day 7: Salvador
After your breakfast, your English-speaking guide will come to pick you up at the hotel lobby to visit the so called “Black Rome”, nicknamed like so because of the African culture influences on its traditions.
Your will start your city tour by the Ordem Terceira de São Francisco church, that has been built in the XVIIIth century.
You will then walk through the famous Pelourinho square, surrounded by colorful Portuguese colonial mansions.
You will go up the Ladeira do Carmo street to reach Santo Antonio neighborhood, and go through the Terreiro de Jesus square to the huge Art deco style Lacerda elevator. Don't resist the temptation of a refreshing “picolé” (ice cream)!

Day 8: Salvador
Free day in Salvador da Bahia: you will have time to walk through Salvador cobbled streets, eat a good "acarajé" (beans and shrimps made traditional dish) on the Porto da Barra beach, and buy some souvenirs.
Day 9: Salvador - Manaus
Three hours before your flight, your English-speaking guide and a driver will pick you up at the hotel lobby to bring you to Salvador airport.
Your driver will come to pick you up at Manaus airport to bring you to your hotel.

Day 10: Manaus
Your English-speaking guide will pick you up at the hotel for a half-day city tour.
The Amazon State capital could be a common city if it wasn’t situated in the heart of the rainforest: its air is saturated with humidity and the huge Rio Negro (river) is impressive wheather it is seen from the Ponta Negra beach or from the floating harbor. A few kilometers ahead, the Rio Negro joins the Rio Solimões to form the Amazon River, before it becomes one with the Atlantic Ocean.
The first stop will be the Amazon Theatre (closed on Mondays), on the ceiling of which you will see the Eiffel Tower viewed from the ground.
Then, you will reach the floating harbor designed by English engineers at the beginning of the XXth century: a real technological achievement at the time.
Finally, the guide will bring you to the market, where you could be tempted to go back by yourself in the morning, to witness the dockers discharging fruits, vegetables and especially huge fishes.
Return to the hotel after the city tour.

Day 11: Manaus
Your driver will pick you up at the hotel at 8h30. You will take the bridge and cross the Rio Negro in a one hour drive. You will see several brick factories, which fabrication is the main activity of Iranduba. You will then take a small motorized-boat for 45 minutes to 1h30 (on dry season).
Only then you will reach the small lodge and be welcomed with a refreshing juice.
At 12h, you will have a delicious Amazonian lunch and rest until 16h.
You will go through the Amazon canals and the underwater forest. You will probably see monkeys and, if you are lucky, a sloth.
You will be back at the lodge around 17h30.
Dinner will be served at 19h.
After a substantial dinner, you will embark for a night safari. During the excursion, you will mostly observe hidden caimans, recognizable by their shiny eyes.
Night at the Manati Lodge**

Day 12: Manaus
A delicious regional breakfast will be served at 7h30.
At 9h00, you will take a dugout pirogue to a forest trail. During the hike, you will discover the rich Amazonian ecosystem through its native plants and trees.
You will take the pirogue back to the hotel around 11h30, to have lunch.
At 16h00, you will take a small motorized boat to fish the king of the Amazonian rivers and lacs: the piranha.
Back to the lodge at the end of the day, where dinner will be served at 19h00.
After dinner you can play board games if you like.
