Those who call the Northern Region of the Alagoas State “Brazilian Caribbean” couldn’t be more accurate. This region including Maragogi, São Miguel dos Milagres and Maceió is still a well-kept secret. São Miguel dos Milagres is a timeless fishermen’s village, surrounded by some of the most beautiful Brazilian beaches, such as Praia Patacho. You will swim in Maragogi’s natural pools or take a boat on Rio Tatuamunha for manatee viewing and consequently support the ecotourism project which aims at reintroducing these huge veggie mammals in their natural habitat. Further south, Laranjeiras and Penedo are two colonial villages proud of the heritage. You could stay there a few days as a break in your beach road trip.
